Wally: Fit, well and ready for action!

On the 2nd of August 2008 South Africans had a chance to view the first televised live heart bypass operation on SABC 3. At the centre of it all, 52 year old Waldemar Katzke, the brave soul who literally put his life on the line so that a nation could see and understand what heart disease and a heart bypass was really about.

And now, two weeks after the most watched surgery in South African history, the nation wants to know: how is our Wally really? The short answer: he's well, he's feeling strong, and yes South Africa, the man is alive. The longer answer: he had stitches out on the 14th, another check up is coming up next week, he's feeling a bit battered and bruised - but that's understandable, he's happy the Lions beat the Bulls last weekend but considering this weekend's game he reckons the Aus ref needs a lesson in game rules, and you know, he's even been back at work!

So as far as updates go it's really all positive and looking good for the man who stole our hearts by showing us his.
